Review

The Jazz Time slot is a unique video slot that has the rare attribute of engaging gamers on a more audible level to help create the right atmosphere. Everything about this slot has an air of magnetism from the sultry sepia tones of the background to the delightful musical motifs that great nearly every move on this slot. The interface is the more casino based 5-reel machine compared to other RTG ‘real-series’ video slots. Instead of taking sums straight out of your balance you choose (just like in reality) to place as much money in the machine so you can keep track of all your funds. You have a total of seven symbols you will want to drop in sequences to win prizes. They are; the microphone, the trumpet, the jazz guitar, the saxophone, the valve trombone, the bongos and the double bass. Match five microphones in a row across an active payline to drop the top award of the line multiplier of 10,000 times. There are also four other icons that act as scatter symbols; the drum sticks, snare, and hi-hat (which trigger the big money scatter bonus) and the piano (which triggers the jazz jam session) all of which will be explained later. Usually in most slots you will notice the typical reel spin animations and sounds to complement the atmosphere of playing and being in a real casino but this slot though encompassing an authentic interface moves away from such traditional values. Instead of the usual sounds of spins, wins, stops and drops as the reels spin you will hear a rhythm guitar repeatedly strumming a chord and for a small win the same guitar will play a little jazzy motif. Make any of the scatter icons appear on the reels and they will instantly play a few notes from their repertoire and as the reels stop spinning they do so to the sound of a hi-hat. The animation isn’t exactly the most advanced but it doesn’t need to be to complement the laid-back style that Jazz Time emits. The animated parts of the game are just limited to reel spins and the occasional shifting of icons to show big money scatter bonuses. The bonus game of the jazz jam session however takes it a little further and that shall be mentioned in due course.

Scatter Symbol

As mentioned earlier there are four scatter icons separated for two different bonus games. The drumsticks, snare and hi-hat scattered across the reels will combine to show off the big money scatter bonus. The piano alternatively needs to be spun three times from a spin across the reels to trigger the superb jazz jam session bonus feature.

Bonus Round

The Jazz Time slot comes complete with two marvellous bonus features. The smaller less astounding creation is the ‘big money scatter bonus’ feature. You have three icons to trigger this game where one of each has to end upon the reels after a spin; one set of drumsticks, one snare drum and one hi-hat. If you manage to make the combination you will see the icons float off the reels and combine in the middle of the page whilst revealing a reasonable win prize.

Bonus Round 2

The second and more elaborate bonus game is the ‘jazz jam session bonus’ feature. Spin three of the piano icons across the reels to trigger your access to this slot. Once you trigger it you will hear a drum kit starting a groove in the background and you have four instruments in front of you; the piano, the double bass, the trumpet and the guitar. Add one by one to hopefully create a smooth groove and each instrument you add, will grant you a prize.
