Online casinos based on the islands of Antigua and Barbuda were unable to provide normal service when Hurricane Earl’s presence forced the APUA (Antigua and Barbuda Public Utility Authority) to turn off water and power supplies.
The hurricane, which has now passed the Caribbean islands and is on its way north towards the East coast of America, went past Antigua and Barbuda during the weekend. While the category four storm caused no deaths or injuries in Antigua and Barbuda, it did force more than 250 residents to take shelter in specially designated centres.
Hurricane Earl has generated winds of up to 215km/h and caused heavy rainfall on several Caribbean islands. Many homes and buildings were damaged, causing major disruption to everyday life and business. This business includes the online casinos which are based on the island, such as VIP Slots and SuperSlots, who were both fortunate not to be affected as heavily as some other online casinos. The clean up operation is now in action and the APUA have promised to restore power all over the island as soon as possible.
More bad news for the gambling industry is that Hurricane Earl may now disrupt Atlantic City as it may well hit New Jersey by Friday morning.
