Trying to contain our excitement in the Slotslogic.com office is one thing, but in this instance it was completely futile. The buzz created by arguably one of the greatest video games of the 90’s now adapted for the slots genre has taken us by storm. The game itself has all the attributes to be a classic, yet it is the small details that link the theme so superbly that provoke the greatest recollections.

Obviously this game may not appeal to many slots gamers who have no prior interest in the ‘Beat ‘em Up’ genre that was established in the last decade of the previous century but those that played Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Tekken or any one of hundreds of related video games at such an adolescent stage of videogame history will certainly cast a kind eye over this slot.

As soon as you choose this slot you will feel as if you have been provided with an updated version of Street Fighter 2 (which is currently going through a redevelopment to be called Street Fighter 4 to be released in the summer of 2008). You choose one of 5 characters to be come your wild symbol that can only appear on the second reel; choose from Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Sagat or Guile. The other wild icon is of the character of M. Bison that only appears on reel 4. Choose your lines (1-25), choose your coin value (valued between 0.01 – 20.00) and give the reels a spin!

The main icon you will want to reveal across the reels is the mask and claw symbol (related from the original character of Vega). Spin 2, 3, 4 or 5 across an active payline to win a line multiplier of 5, 100, 1,000 or 5,000 times respectively. The other icons you will want to show are; your chosen character (a wild), M. Bison (also a wild) and the Street Fighter logo (a scatter).

Though the animation of the reels may be as simple as many other CryptoLogic slots already released, and the lack of imagination used in the choosing some reel icons (the high suit-card values are really insipid), dampen the quality behind the slot; the fact you see the classic theme’s sounds, 3-dimensionalised characters constant rain animation (set upon Ryu’s stage from the video game) and even the brilliant use of these extra features in the bonus and free spin rounds go some way (not all the way) to making amends for some lacklustre production.

Though the game is an amalgamation between slots and video games, the regular reel spins feel quite a world away from the undoubted quality that surrounds both the bonus and free-spins. Wild Symbol

Choose from five classic Street Fighter characters to play in tandem with M. Bison. Your choice only appears on the second reel compared with Bison who appears only on the fourth. Either of the symbols can then substitute themselves for all other icons (wherever possible) to help produce a winning combination, (excluding scatter symbols).

Scatter Symbol

The scatter icon of the Street Fighter logo can win you brilliant prizes. Show 2, 3, 4 or 5 across the reels in any position and multiple your complete spun bet by 1, 5, 20 or 100 times respectively.

Bonus Round and Free Spins

This is arguably one of the best bonus games available. Coincide your chosen ‘Street Fighter’ to appear on the second reel whilst M. Bison appears somewhere on the fourth reel to trigger the Bonus Round and Free Spins.

This bonus round is completely immense! As soon as the combo triggers, your fighters jump out of their reels and get ready to fight in the setting of Zangief’s ‘level’ from the video game. You will get your classic ‘FIGHT!’ introduction to the bonus round accompanied by a modernised rendition of your character’s original theme-music.

As your characters square up you have to spin the remaining reels for no extra cost. Reels 2 and 4 are now fixed as if they are completely filled with wild symbols. After every spin your regular spin prizes are calculated and added to your total. As the icons are revealed, in the bottom-right of some of them you will see smaller images such as a fist or a star in only the 1st or 5th reels. These indicate whether your fighter can use a combo or a special move against their opponent (1st reel power-ups are for your moves, 5th reel power-ups are for M. Bison).

Each time a successful blow is landed the opponents energy bar is decreased, but for every time you make a connection you will also be given a cash prize depending on how successful you are. Win the battle (by depleting you’re opponent’s energy bar at the top) and you’ll win even more rewards that guarantee Street Fighter to be a fighting success!
